Here the furniture and furnishings really linked back beautifully to the tight architectural palette of oak, concrete, black steel and granite….with hints of green and blue to reflect the bush and sea that surround this relaxed cliff top home.
The cover of this issue of HOME magazine encapsulates the stunning Northland ocean view from this house, with all its moody, dark and heavy humid clouds. The setting only needed a few simple objects to hint at gentle occupation without overpowering the tranquillity. An old school enamel jug, solid timber stools, rumpled linen bedding and throws to reflect the ease of living in this farmland home.
Architecture always leads for me whenever I’m styling a house. This house set some mighty high challenges with its stunningly detailed timber ceiling and bold use of colour. Far too much time went into finding a coffee table that was going to make the grade for the living room!
I was commissioned to style various houses for the architectural and lifestyle photography for Fairview collteral.

Although this is a very small dwelling, my car was stuffed to overflowing for the journey to and from Whangapoa. Two arm chairs, Eames walnut stools, bedding, throws, cow hide rugs, hurricane lamps and a few personal items for the overnight shoot.

Styling: Outdoor Room
A delightful outdoor setting that called for furniture and furnishings to complete the outdoor room for the day. I took my inspiration from the linear nature of the structure and found pieces to play off the lines and colours of the timber. It was a winter’s day but the Weather Gods smiled down on us.
An unforgettable house – honest, strong and beautifully detailed to reflect the rugged environment around it. When I styled the house for this shoot, it needed to work well photographically for an awards entry. The spaces called for simple, textural furniture and furnishings that reflected the landscape and enhanced the architecture.
Other professionals engage my styling services to style their projects for photography. Here I selected and supplied the Ox chair, coffee table, rug, Eames Walnut stool, copper and stainless steel accessories, cushions and throw…..everything bar the sofa!!
Styling: Your Home and Garden
I was allotted the task of styling this house in a “Mexican-Pacific” theme for the Festive Homes Tour in 2012. I decked it out from the front gate all the way through to the back hedge…..including rustling up an appropriately Pacific Christmas tree.
